Loudoun,
VA
Loudoun County was established in 1757 after breaking off from Fairfax County, and it is named after John Campbell who was the Fourth Earl of London as well as Governor of Virginia from 1756-1759. Loudon County is bordered by the
Blue Ridge Mountains
and the Potomac River.
The county had the greatest population in Virginia during the War of 1812. One of the great battles in the American Civil War occurred on October 21, 1861 at the
Battle of Balls Bluff

The
Loudon County Government
is located at 1 Harrison Street, S.E., Leesburg, Virginia 20175. Loudon County is a great place to live and work. A 2005 survey of residents reported that 91 percent of respondents rated Loudoun’s quality of life as good or excellent. The county offers a fast-growing, young, family-oriented, highly educated, affluent population (the county consistently ranks among the top in the nation for household median income). It was ranked 5th for Quality-of-Life among all U.S. counties in May 2004 based on a national study conducted by American City Business Journals, Inc., rating living conditions, including affluence, racial diversity, short commuting times, and the availability of affordable housing.
The area is also known for its business diversity with well-known technology businesses that make up the
Dulles Technology Corridor
dubbed the "Netplex" in 1993 by
Fortune magazine
with companies carrying more than half of all internet traffic. The region is home to more telecom and satellite companies than any other place on earth such as
Telos

America Online. The area is known also for its
“horse

Loudon County
has a 2008 population estimate of 279,082 in a land area of 517 square miles. There are 72 public schools and 8 colleges and universities with a total school enrollment of 54,047. The median household income in 2006 was $99,371.
